La Campesina is a cooperative of first class cocoa bean producers formally established the 24th November of 2000. Its headquarters is situated in Matiguas municipality, in Matagalpa department. It is made up of 420 producers (372 men and 48 women) located across 30 different areas of the 4 municipalities of Rio Blanco, Matiguas, Muy Muy and Paiwas. The main activity of La Campesina is the production and commercialisation of cocoa beans. However, it is starting the manufacturing of handmade chocolate.
